SHANGHAI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Poland called for enhanced cooperation between Polish and Chinese companies to jointly cope with the economic fluctuation.

As the cornerstone of the bilateral relation, the mutual trust has helped produce many fruitful cooperation between the two countries, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Poland-China economic and trade forum here on Wednesday.

Among the countries that recognized the founding of the People's Republic of China at the earliest instants, Poland always had trust and respect for China. There were no obstacles handicapping the bilateral mutual trust, Tusk said.

He also expressed his respect and admiration for China's achievements in the past 30 years of reform and opening up.

Under the current situation, Chinese and Polish companies should enhance cooperation and make joint efforts to withstand the economic fluctuation.

He said Poland would attend the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, which would be the best opportunity to introduce his country to the Chinese people.

The design of the Polish exhibition hall for the expo has drawn on the Chinese traditional art of paper-cutting with the theme of "Humans create the city."

Born in the port city Gdansk, Tusk showed special favor to Shanghai. He hoped the two cities would create more opportunities for cooperation in fields such as infrastructure, transport and telecom.

According to statistics, trade between Poland and Shanghai had grown rapidly over the past five years. The trade volume rose 63.72 percent year on year to 1.085 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months this year.

Tusk arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday night, starting his five-day visit to China. He left Shanghai for Beijing on Wednesday night to attend the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Beijing Oct. 24-25.
