Indonesian President to leave for Beijing Wednesday for ASEM meeting

Special Report: The 7th Asia-Europe MeetingJAKARTA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is to leave for Beijing, China on Wednesday to attend the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit on Oct. 24-25,state spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said here Tuesday.
The spokesman told a press conference at the State Palace that President Susilo would meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan.
President Susilo planned to make a speech on climate change at the summit, said Dian Wirengjurit, director of intra-regional cooperation for America and Europe of foreign ministry.
The ongoing financial crisis will be a topic of informal discussion at the summit, he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.
ASEM was established in 1996 with a membership comprising ten member countries of ASEAN, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, and 27 European Union member countries.
