Special Report:   Shenzhou-7 Manned Space Flight

The world witnessed China's third manned space mission last week. But what helped make the Shenzhou 7 crew feel comfortable during their tour of space?

All is well inside the cabin. But outside it is a vast expanse of nothingness.

Designers installed an air conditioning system that keeps the temperature at about 21 degrees Celsius, while humidity is maintained between 30 to 70 percent.

The temperature can get as high as 100 degrees Celsius when sunshine hits the craft, and as low as 100 degrees below zero when the sun is gone.

Cold-light illuminators make the astronauts feel at home.

He Yu, the deputy chief designer of the Shenzhou-7 Mission, said, "The lighting conditions are similar to that of fluorescent lamps, and it doesn't affect your eyesight even if you use the light for a long time."

The inside of the cabin was also specially painted.

Shang Zhi, the chief director of the Shenzhou-7 Mission, said, "The orbiting module's lower part was painted darker than the upper part to give the crew a sense of direction."
