China's Olympic and Paralympic heroes as well as organizers and volunteers contributing to the grand success of the two Games have been honored at a summary meeting held at the Great Hall of the People. Senior Chinese leaders -- including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao -- were all on hand during Monday morning's event. The Chinese leaders expressed the entire nation's gratitude and admiration for everyone's inspiring efforts which contributed to the success of the "Two Games of Equal Splendor".

For one month and a half the heart and soul of all Chinese were bound together as the spectacular events unfolded in their capital city. The Olympic movement had never been pulsating so close to the heart of the nation where achievements of sports heroes are greatly admired. The great pride of China serving as the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic host country triggered unrestrained enthusiasm throughout the land for the duration of the two games. As a result, the splendor of the games moved the world. And now, the country's central leadership is paying special tribute to the outstanding figures who epitomize the diligence and shining achievements behind the games.

Monday morning's summary meeting was presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping read out the CPC Central Committee and the State Council's decision to honor outstanding organizations and individuals during the two games as well as the Hong Kong organizers of the Olympic equestrian events.

BOCOG President Liu Qi said that with the support of the central government and all Chinese people -- along with the guidance of the IOC and IPC -- the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games achieved great success. He says the two games demonstrated to the world China's achievements in its modernization drive. And they also strengthened the nation's unity and self-confidence. As well as ushering in a new era for the development of the capital city.
