Canadian astronauts send greetings to Shenzhou 7

Canadian astronauts have sent their congratulations on the launch of Shenzhou 7.

They also expressed best wishes for the mission, including China's first space walk.

Born in Iceland, Tryggvason Bjarni is one of eight astronauts in Canada. On August 7, 1997, he flew as a payload specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery for 12 days. His primary role was to perform fluid science experiments designed to examine sensitivity to spacecraft vibrations.

Professor Tryggvason spoke highly of the Shenzhou 7 mission, saying the successful launch shows huge improvements in China's space technology capabilities.

He said Chinese advances may change the pattern of international space cooperation.

Having spent 12 days in space making 189 orbits of the Earth, Tryggvason vividly remember his mission. He extended his greetings to Chinese astronauts.

Tryggvason said the successful launch of Shenzhou 7 and China's first space walk means China will become a leading country in space technology.

The Canadian astronaut also expressed hope that China would cooperate in space exploration with other countries in the future.
