Special Report:   Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games

Barrier-free facilities are the most immediate marks the Paralympics have left in China. As the host city of the 2008 Paralympics, Beijing has become a city without barriers.

Beijing resident Li Jinhua said, “I seldom went out in the past, because it was so inconvenient. Last year, the community built a long ramp in front of my door, with steel hand railings. It really liberated me. Some of my disabled friends couldn't visit my place for twenty years because of the stairs. But that's not a problem anymore.”

Besides the accessible facilities, the Paralympic Games have changed people's images about disabled people, and earned more respect for people with disabilities.
