The Olympic torch relay has wrapped up its journey in the coastal city of Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning province.

The Olympic torch relay has wrapped up its journey in the coastal city of Dalian in Liaoning province.

The first torchbearer was Chinese athlete Wang Junxia. The former Olympic champion began the relay Saturday morning at the Golden Pebble Kingdoms of Discovery Theme Park. She then passed the torch to another Olympic champion, Chinese weightlifter Ding Meiyuan.

Dalian is the second largest city in Liaoning Province after Shenyang, the provincial capital. Dalian is also the marine gateway of northeast China. It's an important port and trade, industry and tourism city.

208 torchbearers carried the flame along a route 9.41 kilometers. The mayor of Dalian, Xia Deren, lit the cauldron, ending the last leg of the torch's journey in Liaoning.

The torch will head to Qindao City in Shandong province on Sunday.
