Here at Dongdan subway station, X-ray machines are checking passengers' bags. Sniffer dogs are double checking to ensure no forbidden items are carried on board.

High-tech security machines have been installed at subway stations all around the Olympic host city.

Security Staff said, "The machine can detect whether items contains dangerous materials or not. It is forbidden to carry on these items on board."

One of the challenges for security staff is uncovering liquids containing explosives or strong acid.

The most common method they use to check the contents of drink bottles is asking passengers to take a sip.
