The People's Liberation Army General Hospital has built four field hospitals in Dujiangyan city. These makeshift hospitals are divided into medical and surgical wards, departments of gynecology and pediatrics, and other necessary branches.

The PLA is expected to hand these hospitals to local public health authorities, so that they can gradually resume normal medical services in the city.

Chen Xiaohong, Deputy Director of PLA 301 Hospital said "Some doctors and nurses from local hospitals are currently being trained by our hospital in Beijing. This is part of a five-year agreement we signed with Dujiangyan authorities. More local medical staff will come to take courses in Beijing."

The PLA hospital will also provide essential medical equipment and facilities to local institutions. The Dujiangyan Public Health Bureau says only 20 percent of medical infrastructure survived the earthquake. With the help from the PLA, it will take about three years until permanent reconstruction of the hospitals is completed.
