The first China-US SED took place in Beijing in December, 2006. It focused on China's path of development and strategies for its economic development. The two sides reached agreements on issues like promoting trade and investment, protecting the environment and maintaining sustainable growth.

The two countries held their second and third SEDs last May and December respectively. They signed a number of cooperation deals, and achieved a series of results beneficial to boosting bilateral economic ties.

Through the three meetings, China and the US have enhanced mutual understanding and trust, and promoted trade growth and cooperation. The two countries are each other's second largest trading partners. And the bilateral trade volume hit more than 300 billion US dollars last year.
