China and Japan are making progress in talks over disputes related to the East China Sea. China has been repeating its status on the disputed waters.

China and Japan have held several rounds of talks on the issue since 2004.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu, says China and Japan are in the process of striking deals on East China Sea issues, including the Chunxiao gas field. Breakthrough agreements are expected to be finalized soon.

China and Japan have held several rounds of talks on the issue since 2004.

However, Jiang Yu has stressed that China does not endorse either joint development of the Chunxiao gas field, or Japan's definition of the East China Sea's median line.

Jiang Yu said, "China and Japan will announce their agreement at an appropriate time. But I want to reiterate that the Chunxiao gas field is operated within China's sovereignty. It has nothing to do with joint development."

Jiang Yu has also confirmed that a Japanese warship will visit China in late June. The visit follows a similar trip by a Chinese missile destroyer to Tokyo last November.

Jiang Yu said, "We believe the visit will strengthen defense exchanges and cooperation, as well as promote understanding and friendship between the two peoples."

China says its status on the East China Sea remains unchanged, but details on how to settle the disputes are not disclosed. Experts say the two governments' determination to solve the disputes will build momentus for furthering the mutually beneficial strategic relationship.
