Overseas Chinese help with reconstruction

The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council has briefed the media on efforts by overseas Chinese toward post-quake reconstruction. By Sunday, more than 1.1 billion yuans' worth of donations from overseas has been received.

Deputy Director Ma Rupei said his office immediately launched a campaign called "Love from Overseas Chinese" the day after the quake. The campaign has set a goal of building 100 each of schools and hospitals using donations from overseas Chinese in the next three to five years. He said preparations for the construction of 30 primary schools and 30 hospitals have already begun.

Meanwhile, the central government also laid out specific requirements on managing the funds and supplies received to ensure the whole process is transparent.
