BUCHAREST, June 1 (Xinhua) -- A Romanian C-130 Hercules military plane left late on Sunday for Chengdu, China, from the Bucharest Otopeni airport, to carry urgent humanitarian aid.

The aid consists of tents and it is offered by the Romanian government from the state reserves for the Chinese population hit by the May 12 earthquake.

The government, at its May 14 sitting, held a first discussion on the assistance Romania may offer China and on May 22, the Bucharest authorities decided to give China relief worth two million lei (about 860,000 U.S. dollars), consisting of humanitarian aid and first need stuff.

"Beyond the value in money and along with the reaction of some Romanian local authorities, of the Romanian press and the civil society, the assistance is a normal expression of the friendship and solidarity between the Romanian and the Chinese peoples," stressed the Foreign Ministry when announcing the governmental decision.
