In Shifang city, many locals are helping to rebuild their hometown in a bid to speed up the process.

In Shifang city, many locals are helping to rebuild  their hometown in a bid to speed up the process.

In Luoshui town in Shifang city, local residents are participating in efforts to build temporary houses.

Huang Yantong is one of them. He comes here every day at about 7 am. He later goes back home for lunch and then returns to work until 7 pm.

Huang Yantong said "Everyone is adding his or her own efforts so we can rebuild our homes more quickly and can live in the new homes."

These two brothers in the town are masons by trade.

Wang Daoyin, Shifang City Luoshui Town said "We are professionals in doing this. We are masons. The disaster struck our hometown and now we should rebuild it with our own hands."

These women can not do a lot of heavy work. But they were able to return to the damaged houses to retrieve some bricks and carry them to worksites for the new temporary houses. More and more locals are joining in on these efforts. Although many of them are doing basic work, their enthusiasm, willingness and energy to rebuild their community -- gives the earthquake-ravaged area -- new hope.
