Overseas Chinese holds charity performance to help out quake victims

Overseas Chinese in the Netherlands and the US have recently held a series of charity performances to collect money for victims in the quake-stricken areas of Sichuan province.

In Washington overseas Chinese held a special gathering dedicated to helping out the quake victims.

This charity performance was held in front of the city council of the Hague in Holland.

80,000 euros were collected for the quake victims.

The performances moved many spectators, including Dutch political figures.

The Mayor of the Hague, Van Aartsen, and Gerdi Verbeet, President of the Second Chamber of the States-General said they admire the Chinese people's courage and willpower in dealing with the earthquake. And they said the Netherlands wants to help quake victims re-build their homes.

Meanwhile, over in Washington overseas Chinese held a special gathering dedicated to helping out the quake victims.

37,000 US dollars were collected through charity performances and auctions.

A diplomat with the Chinese Embassy in the US praised these efforts.

He said the embassy has relayed the care of overseas Chinese in the US back to China. And they have transferred the charity money to the quake-stricken areas.

160,000 overseas Chinese in the Washington Area have donated over 600,000 US dollars since the quake struck.
