Russian psychologist helps children

Oliya Makarova is a psychologist with the Russian medical team. She helps survivors, especially children, deal with emotional trauma.

She has two young sons of her own. And her experience as a mother has helped her gain the trust of children here. She organized this game at a vocational high school in the city of Pengzhou.

Oliya Makarova, Russian Medical Team in Pengzhou, said, "In addition to playing this game... we try to talk with the children. We encourage them to express their fears and the impact of the quake on their inner world. This is very helpful to relieve fear and pressure."

The children are engaged and say they feel safe and comfortable taking part in the game. More children are expected to join them in the coming days.

This Russian medial team consists of 65 doctors and nurses. Most of them are experienced and took part in rescue work in the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2004 Asian tsunami.
