The death toll has now risen past 50,000. The Information Office of the State Council says as of 10 am Thursday, the official number of people dead was 51,151. Nearly 30,000 are still missing and another 290,000 people are injured.

The magnitude 8 earthquake rocked Sichuan Province, May 12. The China Seismological Bureau also reports that as of Thursday noon, 167 aftershocks measuring 4 or higher on the Richter Scale had been recorded. Tremors between magnitudes 5 and 5.9 numbered 26. And there have been 4 aftershocks registering above magnitude 6.

Also as of Thursday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 21.4 billion yuan or 3 billion U.S. dollars. That's an increase over the previous day of 5.4 billion yuan. 1.9 billion yuan has been forwarded to earthquake-stricken areas.
