Japanese official expresses sympathy to China

On Friday, speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives, Yohei Kono, visited the Chinese embassy in Japan to extend his sympathy to China over the deadly earthquake.

Speaking on behalf of the Japanese people, Yohei Kono praised China's quick response to the disaster. Talking about China's acceptance of Japan's offer to send an emergency response team to Sichuan, the speaker said that President Hu Jintao's "warm spring" visit to Japan has opened up new prospects for the development of strategic and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, representative of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party gave 1.93 million yen donated by LDP congressmen and another 2 million yen from the party to Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai.

The embassy has also received donations of 10 million yen from Asahi Beer Company, 20 million yen from the Bank of Tokyo, and 15 million yen from the conglomerate Mitsubishi.
