Raffarin says he has passed on the letters from French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former President Jacques Chirac to Chinese leaders. He said that in the letter Sarkozy clearly expresses a continuing strategic partnership with China and wishes Beijing Olympics will be a success.

Raffarin also condemned the sabotage of the Olympic torch relay.
Former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin said, "Olympic Games mean peace and respect to each other. I disagree with bringing politics into the Olympics. I condemn those who do that. I want to tell Chinese youth that most French people are against mixing politics with Olympics."
Raffarin also criticized the Paris municipal parliament's decision to award honorary citizenship to the Dalai Lama as a "serious political mistake".
