French Ambassador to China Herve Ladsous said he regrets the attack on Chinese torchbearer Jin Jing during the Olympic torch relay in Paris. He also said the French government position is "clear" that Tibet is an inalienable part of China, and that the French government has never supported "Tibet independence".

The visiting President of the French Senate conveyed President Nicolas Sarkozy's sympathies to Jin Jing during a special visit to the disabled fencer Monday morning, and said President Sarkozy condemns the attack with the utmost force.

LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault denied an Internet report that alleged he had supported the Dalai Lama in an interview with French daily Le Figaro on Thursday. He said he has never been involved in political or religious affairs, whether in Tibet or elsewhere. He also opposes boycotting the Olympics.

The chairman of French supermarket chain Carrefour said in a interview published Sunday that Carrefour has never financed "Tibet Independence". He also called boycotting the Olympics wrong, saying China deserves an opportunity to show its achievements to the world.
