Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says his country wants a collective missile defense system that will protect the US, Russia and Japan.

The comment comes after Lavrov's yeeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.

Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said, "The creation of a genuinely collective system, which President Putin has spoken about which will bring together the US, Europe, Russia and all interested countries, including Japan, is the best way to track down and, if there is a need, to neutralize missile proliferation threats."

Komura says Japan's cooperation with the US on a prospective missile defense system is a "forced" measure.

He says his country makes decision that take into account the interests of its neighbors.
