Special Report:   BFA Annual Conference 2008

While the Boao forum opens today (Saturday), sideline meetings started on Friday, amid new concerns about the region's environment. There'll be discussions and debates on how to bring about a greener Asia.

Asia is turning a new leaf in the Book of Development, and that leaf's color is green. This is the color that unites the 1700 elite figures at the Forum this year. They hope to transform the continent by getting it to adopt more environmentally sound practices. The key is to find a developmental course that is both healthy and sustainable.

This year's Forum will see the strongest representation from the political, commercial, and academic sectors in the history of the event. As its global influence rises, the conference is expanding beyond Asia.

Long Yongtu, Secretary General of Boao Forum said "For the first time in its history, we have decided to hold a financial conference of the Boao Forum for Asia in London. This will take place from June third to sixth. The Davos Forum has already moved to Asia, to China. Why can't Boao Forum for Asia go to Europe?"

This weekend, participants at the Forum will discuss how to move toward energy efficiency, how to secure Asia's future through renewable energy sources, and how the private sector should contribute to improving the environment.
