China opposes US proposal on Tibet

The Foreign Ministry voiced its opposition to a resolution on Tibet proposed by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Foreign Ministry spokespwoman Jiang Yu said the resolution and its sponsors did not take into account the fact that the rioters in Tibet were involved in organized "beating, smashing, robbing and burning".

She said the US politicians have mislabeled the Chinese government's efforts to restore order as a "crackdown". Jiang Yu again stressed that the Chinese central government is willing to continue contact and talks with the Dalai Lama, as long as he truly abandons advocating "Tibet independence."
