Tibetologists: Lhasa Riot not ethnic issue, but political one

A number of Tibetologists attended a State Council Information Office news conference to speak about the recent unrest in Lhasa.

They say the March 14th riot was not an ethnic issue, but a political one. They note the mob attacked not only ethnic Hui and Han people, but also Tibetans. They stress the Tibetan people have the right to political stability, economic progress and higher living standards. The experts say what happened in Lhasa was not the result of religious conflict.
