Many public facilities in Lhasa were seriously damaged during the March 14th riots. Municipal workers are busy making repairs.

During the unrest, a huge amount of fencing and traffic partitions were burned or pulled down. Sidewalks were broken up and an estimated 50 thousand square meters of road was damaged by fire. More than 1,500 street lamps were destroyed.

The repairing workers say the lights on major roads in Lhasa should be functioning by Thursday night. But it will take three to four months to restore other infrastructure, such as road surfaces and railings.
