Special Report:   3.14 Tibet Riots

The Vice Chairman of China's top political advisory body, the CPPCC, has strongly condemned the riots in Tibetan-populated areas. Ngapoi Ngawangjigme says the unrest has seriously disrupted religious orders, and any separatist activities will never succeed.

Ngapoi Ngawangjigme says the illegal behavior of a few separatists in Lhasa has threatened people's lives and social harmony. Some Chinese embassies and consulates have been attacked by overseas Tibet independence elements. Ngapoi Ngawangjigme says there is evidence to prove these violent activities were organized, premeditated by the Dalai Lama clique.

He says the rioters want to disrupt the Beijing Olympics and their real purpose is to split Tibet from China. He stressed Tibet is an inalienable part of China, noting that no country or government has ever recognized Tibetan independence. He says he has witnessed great changes in Tibet over recent decades and Tibet can only develop well under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.
