Special Report:   3.14 Tibet Riots

Several Tibet religious figures have expressed their opposition to the Dalai Lama's remarks concerning what he called "cultural genocide" and "terror rule" in Tibet.

The vice-president of the Tibetan Branch of the Buddhist Association of China, Lhadar Ngawang Daindzin, said the Dalai Lama's remarks are totally unfounded and do not accord with reality. Lhadar Ngawang Daindzin also called on the government to punish those who initiated Friday's riots.

And Tubdian Tar-gyai, a living Buddha at the Gandan Monastery, said the protection of monasteries is the best way to protect Tibetan culture. He says the government has poured huge sums of money in recent years into the repair of monasteries and buildings of historic importance demonstrating the Chinese government's willingness to protect Tibetan culture.
