The Vice-president of the Supreme People's Court also says great importance has been placed on handling civil cases involving Taiwan compatriots.

During the past 5 years, a total of 4,547 fugitive criminal suspects were arrested for misconduct in their duty. Among them, over 70 suspects that had escaped overseas were also brought to court.

Currently, China has signed several pacts with judicial departments in more than 80 countries aimed at cooperating in the capture and extradition of suspects.

Jiang Wei, Grand Procurator of NPC deputy said "For any suspect at large, we have set up a special file to record evidence. For those escaping abroad, we contact the relevant countries, and bring the suspects to justice."

The Vice President of the Supreme People's Court, Huang Songyou, says China began issuing judicial interpretations on cases relating to marriage, real estate and financial debt -- involving Taiwan compatriots -- as early as 1988.

Huang Songyou, Vice President of Supreme People's Court said "Since 1998, the various levels of mainland's judicial departments have handled over 200 civil cases involving Taiwan compatriots. And the judgments have received high praise and agreement from Taiwan compatriots."

The Supreme People's Court says it will also respect and approve the judgment of civil cases made by judicial departments in Taiwan region. And that any judgments that are in accordance with the basic principles of China and that are not harmful to the public interests can get approval from or can be executed by the judicial departments in the Chinese mainland.
