NPC frames agenda for upcoming session

The Council of Chairmen of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress has framed the agenda for a new session. At the session's preparatory meeting held on Tuesday morning, the list of candidates for the presidium and secretary-general of the First Session of the 11th NPC Standing Committee was approved.

At a press conference held right after the preparatory meeting, NPC spokesman Jiang Enzhu briefed the public on the agenda of the session and the work of the NPC.

NPC spokesman Jiang Enzhu said, "Under the law, the NPC has a term of five years and the new session starts this year. This session aims to fully implement the strategic decisions of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It's also held at a time when China celebrates the 30th anniversary of the adoption of reform and opening up, and when Beijing is ready to host the Olympics. Therefore this session is crucial to unite Chinese people in an effort to further push towards a moderately-prosperous society."

Jiang Enzhu also introduced other information on the upcoming NPC session agenda. Included on the agenda will be deliberation of the government work report, a report on planning and budget, a work report of the NPC Standing Committee as well as a work report of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. The session will also discuss the motion on reforming the State Council body. It will elect China's President, Vice President, decide on the candidate for the premiership of the State Council, and decide on candidates for vice-premiers, governor of the State Bank of China, In addition, Chairman of the Central Military Commission will be elected. The President of the Supreme People's Court and the Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate will also be elected.
