China commemorates 110th birthday of late Premier Zhou Enlai

China's top Communist Party leaders have been commemorating former Premier Zhou Enlai's contribution to the party and the country. Next Wednesday will be the 110th anniversary of Comrade Zhou's birth. CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao called on the people to learn from his spirit.

Hu Jintao says Zhou Enlai dedicated his whole life to the founding of a new China and the building of a modernized country, along with the happiness of the people. He adds Zhou is a brilliant example for CPC members and the Chinese people.

Hu points out the purpose of commemorating Zhou Enlai is to learn from his contribution to the party, the country and its people, and bear the spirit of continuous efforts on building a modernized China.

Hu Jintao encourages promoting the careers of the older generations and developing the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics for new achievements in China's construction and rejuvenation.

Hu Jintao, CPC General Secretary said "Now we are standing at a new starting point in history. Our party has been leading the nation on the deepening of reforms and opening up and promoting the modernization of the country. The mission for us is difficult but honorable. On our way forward, we should implement the scientific outlook on development and keep liberating our minds. We should dedicate ourselves to realizing our forerunners' dreams and build a prosperous, democratic, civilized and harmonious country."

Zhou Enlai was one of the founders of China's communist party, the People's Republic of China and the People's Liberation Army. He was one of the leading figures of China before his death in 1976. He served as premier throughout this period and was also China's foreign minister from 1949 to 1958.

Besides Chinese people's respect for his outstanding work on the construction of a modern China, Zhou also gained great respect from other world leaders.
