Four bird flu cases have been discovered in the past two months making combating the H5N1 virus urgent. The chief veterinarian explains what's behind the case in Guizhou Province.

Chief Gov't Veterinarian Jia Yongling said, "January is the time to immunize poultry against bird flu, but snowstorms delayed the delivery of vaccines."

Nearly 4,000 head of poultry have died in the latest outbreak, and 240,000 more have been culled to contain the virus. Vaccines have now been delivered to poultry farms.

Jia Yongling said, "Universal vaccination, tight monitoring and disinfection are the major measures China has taken to fight avian flu, and they proven to be effective."

China has more poultry than any other country. There are a large number of poultry farms around the country, and millions of farmers raise birds in their backyards. This makes China a key player in the global fight against bird flu.
