With their travel plans delayed by the storms, migrant workers are likely to see their return journeys overlap with those of the students.

A railway station like this one in Yangxin County in Hubei Province normally handles less than 200 passengers per day. But more than 12,000 migrant workers now pass through everyday. Wuhan Railway Bureau laid on trains exclusively for migrant workers at dozens of railway stations to ease the pressure on Wuhan station.

Passenger flows at Nanchang, Wuhan, Fuyang stations all saw record numbers on Thursday. In Fuyang, more than 180 trains carried over 75,000 passengers.

A migrant worker said, "The trains assigned to migrant workers makes travel easier for us."

Guangzhou railway station has seen a million passengers pass through in the last two days, as many chose to go home after the Spring Festival in the wake of the storms. Their return trips are also expected to be postponed by up to a week, coinciding with the Lantern Festival on February 21st. Guangzhou station is anticipating an overlap of migrant workers and students and is suggesting that students to book their tickets ahead of schedule.
