The Hezbollah commander was killed by a car bomb in Syria on Tuesday.

Thousands of mourners have lined up under pelting rain in Beirut's southern suburbs, to pay their respects to Moughniyah.

His coffin was draped in a Hezbollah flag.

Hezbollah chief Nasrallah made an address at Moughniyah's funeral, vowing to retaliate against Israeli targets abroad after accusing Israel of masterminding the assassination.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah chief, said, "Today, I will say one word about this crime, at this place, this time and manner. If you Zionists want a war of this kind, then let the whole world listen, let it be an open war."

The senior Hezbollah commander was killed in a car bombing in a residential neighborhood in the Syrian capital Damascus Tuesday night.

He was a legend to Hezbollah, but one of the men most wanted by Israel and the US for planning attacks that killed hundreds in the 1980s and the 1990s.

Besides Hezbollah, Syria and Iran have also accused Israel of being behind the killing.

But Israel has denied any involvement. Fearing revenge, Israel has raised the level of alert at its embassies abroad.

It's also issued a worldwide travel advisory, warning Israelis against possible abduction attempts overseas.
