Chinese and British Olympic athletes were on hand in Oxford Circus to switch on red lanterns as a stunt rider took to a fourteen foot ramp to perform extreme BMX stunts.

The performance was in celebration of BMX becoming a new Olympic event. It will appear for the first time at the 2008 Beijing Games.

This year's special relationship between the two countries will dominate the festival. After the games this summer, Beijing will hand over to new host London, where the 2012 Olympics will take place.

Chinese Gold medallist Tian Liang, known as the "Prince of Diving" in China says this summer's games will promote Chinese culture around the world.

Tian Liang, Chinese Gold Medallist Diver, said, "I think the 'China in London' campaign will bring Chinese culture to English people. I also believe the Olympics is a fast way for people around the world, including the UK, to learn more about China and Chinese culture."

This is the third "China in London" season. Chinese-inspired events are taking place across the capital, including the biggest celebration of Chinese New Year, outside Asia.
