Special Report:   Winter Storm Relief

Snowfall has eased up in most areas hit by stormy weather across China. But things are getting worse in northern Zhejiang Province.

30 centimeters of snow has fallen in the provincial capital Hangzhou. The city has suspended all long-distance buses, and the airport has been shut down for more than 30 hours. In the worst-hit region in Hunan province, power was partially restored on Saturday, ending a week-long blackout. More than one million train passengers remain stranded in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.

The Ministry of Railways says most passengers should be able to reach home ahead of the Spring Festival. Bad weather is forecast into the Spring Festival, until next Friday or Saturday.

And more snow is likely to fall on Monday and Tuesday. Experts are blaming the nasty weather on La Nina and abnormal atmospheric circulation.
