Measures adopted to ensure Spring Festival

Premier Wen Jiabao has hosted the executive meeting of the State Council to deal with snow-related problems. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council have now coordinated all efforts to increase coal and power supplies, repair damaged electricity grids, and resume blocked traffic.

The State Council says cold weather will continue in southern China and the situation is still severe. In order to ensure people can enjoy the Spring Festival, the central government says the following measures should be adopted.

First, efforts should be exerted to unblock roads and resume railway lines.

Second, damaged power supplies should be repaired as soon as possible.

Third, measures should be taken to guarantee people's basic needs.

Fourth, coal mines should increase supply.

And finally, leaders at all levels should take responsibility to deal with disaster.
