Various activities organized for migrant workers

Many migrant workers are unable to make it back home for the Spring Festival festivities. So their companies are organizing various activities especially for them.

In Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, migrant workers are spending their spare time playing billiards and table tennis.

This company hopes such activities will help migrant workers cope with their disappointment.

A migrant worker said, "I don't mind having to stay here. I can't go home, but I am still having a good time."

Zhuhai's labor union says there are more than 400 thousand migrant workers in the city. And, about two thirds of them have to stay there this year.

And in Zhejiang Province the local government also called on companies to arrange special activities for their migrant workers.

A migrant worker said, "I'm from Anhui Province. I was planning to celebrate the Lunar New Year at home but I decided to stay here because of the transportation situation. And, luckily, the company has arranged many activities for us."

And one company which has encouraged migrants to stay put for the festive season is giving each worker a special subsidy of 30 yuan per day.
