Broadcasted live across the nation, the unveiling of the designs were part of Beijing's celebration to mark the 200 day countdown to the opening of the Summer Olympics on August the 8th.

The pattern is the same for all three uniforms, only the colours are different.

Volunteers will be decked out in blue, which symbolizes peace in Chinese culture.

Uniforms for BOCOG staff members will be red, representing Passion and Happiness, while technical staff will be wearing grey -- a colour of serenity and calm.

How fitting then, that a successful athlete must posess all of these qualities represented by the colours on these uniforms: Passionate, Peaceful and Calm.

The design team includes Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts and Design -- who also contributed to the design of the gold-jade Olympic medals.
