Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Sofia Thursday on a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Purvanov.

During his visit, Putin will meet Bulgarian leaders to seal a deal with Atomstroyexport, a company controlled by Russian monopoly Gazprom to build Bulgaria's new nuclear power plant in Belene.

He will also host the official signing of the contract to establish the company that will design and build the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline in which Russian firms own a 51 percent stake.

Putin will also unveil the Year of Russia in Bulgaria at a gala concert Thursday evening.
