The Security Council session comes as tensions remain high between Serbia and the Albanian-led Kosovo government.

The session discussed reports on the progress made in the province submitted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Ethnic Albanian leaders say they will declare Kosovo's independence within several weeks, although they have promised not to move without a blessing from the US and the EU.
