An earthquake measuring 6.9 degrees on the Richter scale hit Tibet on Wednesday at 16:26 Beijing time.

The quake's epicenter was in western Tibet about 100 km from Gerze in Ngari Prefecture.
No casualties have been reported. The area is remote and sparsely populated and at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters.
