China, Japan reach concensus on major issues

China and Japan have agreed on major bilateral issues during talks between China's top leadership and visiting Japanese Prime Minister, Yasuo Fukuda.

President Hu Jintao met with Yasuo Fukuda on Friday afternoon. President Hu said China is willing to strengthen dialogue with Japan to increase mutual trust and seek solutions to sensitive issues.

In a separate meeting, top legislator Wu Bangguo said although differences remain, China and Japan share increasing common interests. Both sides called for more regular contacts between the two parliaments.

Earlier, Fukuda and his Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabao held comprehensive and candid discussions on a wide range of issues. They agreed that relations have entered an important period of improvement and development.
