Top officials from US commerce, health and agricultural departments have taken a close look at China's work on quality control in Beijing.

They have learned more about China's efforts on quality control and food safety ahead of the upcoming Sino-US strategic economic dialogue.

According to a new survey released on Monday, Chinese and Americans generally hold favorable views toward each other. And most people in both countries believe bilateral trade benefits both economies. The survey -- entitled American and Chinese Attitudes Toward Each Other -- was released by the Committee of 100, a nonprofit organization made up of well-known Chinese Americans. It found that 60 percent of the Chinese people surveyed have a favorable impression of the United States. And 52 percent of the Americans give a favorable rating to China.

A warm welcome to US officials for a close look into China's quality control system.

On the welcoming line, are top officials from China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

China's quality watchdog took this opportunity to show the real picture of China's quality control system to the US guests. They aimed to address US concerns about product safety.

GAQSIQ director Li Changjiang said, "This inspection network monitors all the factors concerning health, security, and the environment."

The US senior officials also met with Chinese top officials from the quality watchdog and brought up topics that will be discussed at the upcoming strategic economic dialogue. The two countries believe they can achieve a positive outcome.

GAQSIQ director Li Changjiang said, "During the meeting, we are expected to sign a memorandum on food safety with the US Health Department and also a memorandum on alcohol and tobacco with the US Treasury Department."

When it comes to food safety, China's quality control officials believe strengthening cooperation is the only solution to secure the food safety for both countries.

China's Ministry of Agriculture and the US Agriculture Department also discussed exports of Chinese poultry and pork to the US.

The visitors received a surprising Christmas gift, a toy made-in-China. They are expected to see more Chinese products as well as production-lines during their stay in China.
