Born in the 1930's, Wu spent her life like most ordinary Chinese women. Wu says she missed out during her prime years and now, she is making up for lost time.

Wu Ying said, "When I was young, my life was to go to work and come home, then take care of my family. There was no other way of exercising. There was nothing. If I wanted to exercise,I had to stretch against a wall."

It didn't take her much time to realise that it was only "kids" hip hopping. But she didn't see why that should stop her. Wu persuaded over 30 retired women to form a team.

Some people think this sort of dancing is not for 'decent' people. Wu sometimes couldn't get support from her own family.

Wu Ying said, "Especially my daughter. She said, this is just great. There are a bunch of young hooligans dancing on the streets out there, now I have an old hooligan dancing in my own household."

After years of persistence, her dance has won support and respect from many. Wu and her team took part in the Olympic cheerleaders contest. They want to perform in front of the world during next year's Games.
