Ukraine's two pro-Western parties have created a wafer-thin majority coalition in parliament, paving the way to the formation of a new government.

The two parties are the Block of Yulia Tymoshenko and Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense led by Viktor Yushchenko.

A senior member of Yushchenko's party made the announcement after chairing the parliament's session. Roman Zvarych says that the coalition agreement was signed by 227 lawmakers, one more than needed for a majority according to the Constitution.

The agreement stipulates that Tymoshenko would return as prime minister, while Yushchenko's party would pick the parliament speaker.

Members of the parliament are scheduled to meet on December the 4th, in a bid to resolve problems linked to electing a speaker.
