UN praises Chinese peacekeepers

The official in charge of the UN's peacekeeping missions has praised China's contributions to world peace. Jean-Marie Guehenno made the remarks after watching an exercise by the sixth Formed Police Unit, which heads for Haiti in early December.

Gunfire, riots, and assaults These will be a part of everyday life for the peacekeeping police.

Protecting VIPs, rescuing hostages, and fighting face-to-face combat. These are missions to be accomplished.

For the past seven years, more than 1,000 Chinese peacekeepers have served their duty, making China the second largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions among the five permanent members of the Security Council.

Jean-Marie Guehenno, Under Sec-Gen of UN Peacekeeping Operations, said, "It's a very important signal China has sent to the world responsible member of the UN security council"

Guehenno notes that day to day communication creates a relationship between police and local civilians. With the help of Chinese peacekeepers, life in areas of conflict have become better and safer.

Jean-Marie Guehenno said, "When they receive they see the UN is helping them, they see China is helping them not alone in their suffering.progress is coming with confidence."

In regions that are tired of violence, Chinese peacekeeping police are making every effort to maintain law and order, with their commitment to peace.
