Serbian and Kosovo Albanian leaders have began trioka talks in Brussels on the future status of Kosovo.

EU foreign ministers have urged the leaders to seek a compromise after Russia blocked a UN-sponsored plan putting Kosovo on the road to independence.

Kosovo's President Fatmir Sejdiu says the Serb province will coordinate its push for independence with the US and the EU, and wants to launch the move days after a December deadline for mediation.

Mediators are expected to present their negotiation report to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as scheduled on December the 10th.

The EU is becoming increasingly pessimistic about the December deal, with several European ministers stressing Kosovo Albanians should coordinate any subsequent independence moves with international allies to avoid destabilizing the region.
