China welcomes French President´s visit

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has told his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner China welcomes a state visit by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in late November.

It will be Sarkozy's first visit to China since he became French President in May.

This handshake symbolizes a new stage in Sino-French relations.

During their talks in Beijing, Yang Jiechi said that China and France enjoy friendly ties and a comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries also share broad consensus on major international issues. Kouchner said the two sides will have the opportunity to sign many cooperation agreements during President Sarkozy's visit.

Later, the two addressed a joint news conference. Yang Jiechi said China welcomes Sarkozy's upcoming visit.

Yang Jiechi said, "The visit is this year's major event in Sino-French relations. We discussed the preparations...and both sides believe the visit will produce major positive results through our common efforts. This event will be an impetus to relations between both our countries"
