Special Report:   17th CPC National Congress

2 hours after the 17th CPC Nat'l Congress close, newspapers and television stations were buzzing with reports about the 17th CPC National Congress. And Chinese citizens are interested in a variety of issues.

A tourist in Beijng said, "I'm paying attention to the newly-elected leaders, and the amendment to the party constitution."

"I'm a party member, so the organization and building of the party tops my concerns." said a retired worker.

A university student said, "As a student majoring in economics, I'm interested in economic topics from the 17th CPC National Congress-- like the changes of stock and security markets. I hope the decision made by the congress can guide us to further develop our economy and consolidate our economic infrastructure."

The group debut of the CPC's top leadership has been generating keen interest in Hong Kong. Some notable persons from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were eager to weigh in with their opinions.

NPC Standing Committee member Tsang Hin Chi said, "I was very excited to see the successful reshuffling of the CPC leadership. The people of Hong Kong have been paying a lot of attention to the 17th CPC National Congress. And we have great expectations. We can see talented people have been elected as members of the CPC Central Committee."

The closing of this year's Party Congress also grabbed headlines in Hong Kong newspapers. The Wen Wei Po newspaper spoke highly of the Party Congress-- saying it charts a clear roadmap for the country's development. It commented that the Scientific Outlook on Development is a good response to new problems and challenges arising from reform and opening-up.
