Hu Jintao's keynote report to the 17th National Congress is drawing the attention of foreign diplomats in China. They hope a clear direction carried out in an open and pragmatic manner will bring continued prosperity to China.

Peter Wilson serves as the Political Counselor in the British Embassy in Beijing. He has witnessed the dramatic changes brought about by the reform and opening up policies in recent years. And he is impressed by China's commitment to continue the direction laid out in Hu Jintao's report.

Mario Artaza with the Chilean Embassy says the pragmatic and open manner of China in facing its challenges is a good example for emerging countries.

The ongoing 17th National Congress of the CPC is being watched across China. Foreign Ambassadors to China see it as an opportunity to create closer ties between China and their counties.

Carlos Miguel Pereria, Cuban ambassador to China, said, "We highly appreciate the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It is a congress of far-reaching and historic impact and opens a new chapter for reforms and the socialism with Chinese characteristics."

Jesus J. Wu Luy, Peruvian ambassador to China, said, "To improve a harmonious society by Scientific Outlook on Development,as Hu Jintao has said, will be a treasure to the new generation of leaders of China."

Foreign diplomats say Hu Jintao's report to the 17th Party Congress sets a clear road map for the country. They're confident China will step up its efforts to achieve economic prosperity and social harmony. And build a more solid foundation on which to emerge as a great power in the global arena.
